Ferocity progeny continue to be in great demand » more details

IN his racing heyday Ferocity had his share of high flying connections.
As a product of Lion Hunter, one of the best sire sons of the global sensation Danehill, Ferocity demanded attention right from the outset.
After all Danehill, his granddad did not require any longwinded introduction. Similarly, Lion Hunter, Ferocity’s dad, gathered accolades throughout his stallion career before his early death.
Lion Hunter’s sons and daughters included the Group 1 winners Lovely Jubly and Gold Edition and the Group 1 placegetters Rampant Lion, Midnight City, Upilio, Barbaricus, Any Suggestion and Street Smart.
On his dam side, Ferocity was also well connected with his sisters Leone Chiara and Chinchilla Rose winners at stakes level. Ferocity was also a precocious racehorse with the Ascot Vale Stakes, now the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, and the Adelaide Magic Millions among his victories.
Even Ferocity’s owners are high fliers, so to speak. Virgin Blue boss Brett Godfrey was one of the part-owners who secured Ferocity for $100,000 at a yearling and was thrilled when he fulfilled expectations.
Now international buyers are hopping aboard.  They were quick off the mark to buy everyone of his offspring offered at the Magic Millions Horses In Training Sale at the Gold Coast on October 28 and 29.
Hong Kong based Manfred Man went to $125,000 to buy Lot 72 a grey colt out of Survive (by Marauding).
Magic Millions Singapore signed for Lot 43, a grey gelding out of Princess Precious (Precocious) which fetched $55,000 and Magic Millions Korea bought two horses -  Lot 107, a bay colt out of Brooklyn Express (General Assembly), for $22,000 and Lot 317, a bay colt named Bragging Rights out of Baraness (Barathea).
Oaklands Stud principal Neville Stewart remains as confident as ever in Ferocity’s future.
Stewart regards Ferocity as the perfect substitute for Lion Hunter, saying Ferocity carried all the necessary prerequisites to succeed in the stallion barn.
“He comes from a proven sire line through Lion Hunter, Danehill, Danzig and Northern Dancer,” Stewart said.
“I wanted a pedigree with some Star Kingdom influence – and in his pedigree he has Ritmar who was a very good filly by Star Kingdom.”
Ritmar won the 1959 VRC Lightning as a two-year-old, and was sold to the US where among her foals was the New Zealand sire Diplomatic Star, sire of Ferocity’s grand-dam E’toile d’Or.
“But just as importantly, Ferocity was an exceptional racehorse.” Stewart said.
Ferocity contested 10 races, six of which were stakes events, up to 1400 metres, finishing with three victories (Adelaide Magic Millions, Ascot Vale Stakes G2, VRC Festive Season) and four placings including a third in the Victorian Racing Club Sires Produce Stakes G2 for track earnings of $656,500. He collected prizemoney in 80 percent of his outings.” Stewart said.
Ferocity’s racetrack popularity was transferred to the breeding barn where he has covered 382 mares in his first three seasons.
“His progeny have been in demand in the sale ring selling up to 11 times his service fee.
“There isn’t a doubt in my mind Ferocity will be just as good as his sire, perhaps even better,” Stewart concluded.
Ferocity’s service fee for 2009-10 is $11,000 inc GST.

Tsuimai is again the leader in Queensland sires list » more details

BREEDING experts appear to have picked another winner with their assessments of Tsuimai (Thunder Gulch USA-Triscay-Marscay).
When the record breaking Gloaming Stakes winner retired to Oaklands Stud numerous breeding buffs predicted Tsuimai would provide to be a real hit once his progeny matured.
They thought his horses would begin to show their best form as early three-year-olds, and then improve, and improve, and …
Which is happening.
But Tsuimai couldn’t wait to make his mark and was crowned Queensland’s champion first season stallion with six individual winners, four of which flew the flag on the international stage.
Tsuimai’s Australian winners were his daughters Seychelles (Special Deposit-Special Dane) with prizemoney earnings of $41,550 from three wins and two thirds in her eight starts; and Sassy 'n' Brash (Jerash-Mukaddamah) who started 10 times for earnings of $28,350 from one win, three seconds and one third.
Oneuruiyeonggwang (Strictly Raised-Francis.S) had one win and one second and two thirds from five starts and Ink Spot (Anxious-Snippets), which won three times in four starts were also winners for him in Korea and Tsuimai was represented by two winners in Manilla – Par Excellence (Silent Water-Pre Emptive Strike) with one win from one start and Pareng Hilton also had a perfect strike rate with two from two.
Seven other’s of Tsuimai’s first crop won place prizemoney - Matsi Concept (Simple Concept-Bluebird), Ponchito (Santa Rosa-Pride Of Kellina), Sneaky Tsu (Grey Sneakers-Spectacular Sky), Perfection (Cena-Century), Ivan's Choice (Corteza-Zephyr’s Zip), Ceviche (Barashe-Barathea) and Released (No Release-Gone West).
When Tsuimai won the coveted first season sire’s crown, Oaklands Stud principal Neville Stewart admitted to “some surprise” at the outcome.
“We bought him as a late two-year-old, early three-year-old producing stallion, so it was surprising to see he had some precocious two-year-olds, although he did cover a very good first-book of mares,” he said.
But Stewart isn’t giving the promising sire full credit yet.
“He’s done a fair job, but he’s got a long way to go before you could say he’s a good sire.
“It was always my view that the best will be his three-year-olds and we are now starting to see that.  So far this season his three-year-olds have won nine races – seven of which are individual winners.”
Tsuimai is currently placed in 13th spot on The Australian Second Season Sires List (according to prizemoney) and is leading the Queensland Second Season Sires Lists according to both prizemoney and winners.
On the second season list Tsuimai’s winners also continue to have an international flavour with his Manilla based son Best Of Tsuimai (Housebound-Zoffany) having won both his starts.
His other winners are Camphor (Fiercely Maternal-Success Express) two wins, Dainty Lady (McCarty’s Girl-Semipalatinsk), Finx (Ratified-Sanction), Matsi Concept (Simple Concept-Bluebird), , Perfection (Cena-Century) and Warrego (Claire’s Vision-Marwina).
Tsuimai joins Lion Hunter, Iglesia and Pure Theatre in winning the prestigious Queensland’s Champion First Season Sire award whilst standing at Oaklands Stud.
