BLOODSTOCK linked to Oaklands Stud has found its way into some of the most celebrated stables in Australia in the aftermath of the Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast.
Over the opening four days of the annual yearling festival, Gai Waterhouse, David Hayes, Mick Price, Peter Moody and Anthony Cummings were among buyers to sign for yearlings out of the Oaklands draft or by stallions which once stood at the stud.
Waterhouse, widely regarded as Australia’s first lady of the turf put her name on the buyers line for two youngsters.
She stopped the bidding at $320,000 on the Rock of Gibraltar-Smile-Sackford Ire colt.
Listed as lot 332 the brown colt is the fifth foal of the winning Kiwi mare Smile, whose offspring include Spin ‘n’ Grin and Mr Smugg.
A little earlier Waterhouse went to $250,000 for a daughter of Iglesia (Last Tycoon Ire-Yodells-Marscay) out of the Success Express USA mare My Millennium - photographed above.
A black or brown filly, she wore hip number 159 into the sale ring and attracted plenty of interest. She is a half-sister to Emit Time, runner-up in the 2005 Magic Millions Classic and a winner of more than $350,000 in prizemoney.
Cummings snared the half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Racing To Win for $625,000.

Mark Pilkington bloodstock agent and buyer for the Hayes stable, parted with $150,000 for the Iglesia half-brother to Queensland Sires Produce Stakes placegetter Upilio.
A winner of nearly $250,000, Upilio is one of a growing number of black type peformers by the former Oaklands Stud stallion Lion Hunter.
Moody, a former Queenslander, maintained connections with his home State when he paid out $80,000 for another of Iglesia’s sons.
Moody liked lot 704 Iglesia-Future World-Gulch USA which is related to a number of black type runners including Sorority stakes winner Blue Jean Baby.
Price, who is widely regarded for his efforts training fillies, has added a daughter of Iglesia to his team. He paid $65,000 for lot 149, a chestnut by Australia’s fastest 1200 metres winner from the Danzig Connection mare Mosse, who is a half-sister to the VRC Sires Produce winner De Lago Mist.
Gold Coast trainer Helen Paige, who has enjoyed her share of success with the products of Oaklands stallions, has tested the water again by purchasing an Iglesia-Precious Pearl-Semipalatinsk USA for $150,000. A sister to the dual stakes-winner Diamonsondinside and the Gimcrack Stakes placegetter Miss Argyle she has been labeled by Paige as one of the buys of the carnival.
Victorian-based Karl Brown Bloodstock prevailed in a short bidding duel to secure a half-sister by former star sprinter Iglesia to filly of the moment Gold Edition. They paid $350,000 for the filly which was offered by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm, owners of Gold Edition, which destroyed her rivals in the Magic Millions Trophy on January 13.
By Iglesia from Glimmers (Success Express USA) the filly is also a relative of winners Newquay, Civil List and Point Of Honour.
Written Tycoon’s brother sold for $285,000 to the bid of Nick Williams of Victoria.
Offered by Daandine Stud, the colt (Iglesia-Party Miss-Kenmare Fr) was offered as lot 198. His brother, a winner of the Group 2 Todman Slipper has been syndicated for $4m and will stand his first season at Eliza Park in Victoria next season.
Oakland Stud’s stallion Pure Theatre had his first yearlings up for offer at the sale.
A colt from the Pricelessly mare Simply Flawless was bought by New Zealand bloodstock agent Paul Willetts from the Racetree Farm draft for $50,000 which is about ten times the stallion’s service fee.
Hong Kong-based Wu Hin Tong paid $210,000 to buy the Pure Theatre-Swiss Cotton NZ-Straight Strike USA colt (lot 382).
The youngster is from the family of multiple winners Shantung, Walken, Hard To Get, Reputed Groom and the Rosehill Research Group 3 winner Fumble.
Danehill stallion Aucash was represented in the sale ring with offspring from his second crop and a daughter sold for $150,000.
Victoria’s Lakeview Resources Pty Ltd paid the money for the filly which is a half-sister to the fleet-footed Murphy’s Blu Boy, which won five races before his retirement to stud.
The filly is related to Cox Plate and Stradbroke Handicap winner Dane Ripper.
Two other colts from the Oaklands draft were popular with bidders.
Lot 272 a son of Japan Cup winner Falbrav from Star Way’s well connected daughter Review, fetched $100,000 on the bid of New South Wales’ E Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd. Oaklands Stud also sold a Giant’s Causeway-Fast Life-Marscay colt to Tanjio Pty Ltd for $130,000. The colt, which is an October foal, is directly related to four winners including Say Good Morning which won five times for the Waterhouse stable.
