ONE of Australia’s slickest sprinters will stand at Oaklands Stud next spring. All Bar One, a winner of nine of his 25 starts and over $548,000, will take his place at Oaklands alongside Aucash, Break the Vault, Ferocity, Iglesia, Pure Theatre, Tsuimai and Salt Lake City in a deal brokered by Magic Millions. Oaklands Stud principal Neville Stewart said: “All Bar One is a great addition to the stallion ranks at Oaklands. “I was very excited about his speed and pedigree. He will defi nitely suit colonial bred mares and he is an excellent type, with a keen eye and possesses great strength through his shoulder and hindquarter. “All Bar One meets all the criteria to make a first class sire.” Stewart added. Bought as a yearling for $85,000 by Hoss and Gillian Heinrich in 2003, All Bar One established himself as one of the country’s most electrifying and popular sprinters. Gillian Heinrich always rated All Bar One highly and her opinions were shared by the likes of Magic Millions General Manager David Chester who said the entire was an exceptionally fast and consistent sprinter and premiership winning jockeys Glen Colless and Stathi Katsidis who noted his power and tenacity. All Bar One was a winner in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and he achieved stakes status with victories in the Group Two Sir Byrne Hart Stakes and the listed WJ Adams Stakes. He also produced an explosive performance to romp home in a Crown Trophy at Moonee Valley and ran third in the Group One BTC Cup and Group Two QTC Cup. A service fee for All Bar One for his maiden season at stud in 2007 will be announced early next year. Click here to download PDF version of newsletter.

US bred-broodmare Nirvana, fresh from a starring role at Goffs November Foal Sale in Ireland, has been covered by the Nureyev (USA) stallion Pure Theatre. Nirvana (Green Dancer USA-Quick Blush USA Blushing Groom FR) motored into the news in mid-November when her latest foal, a filly by Danzig’s son Bertolini, led the results on day four of the annual sale. A natty half-sister to the Italian Group 3 winner Il Cadetto, the filly was sold to Brian Grassick Bloodstock for 130,000 Euros (about $208,000) clearly the highest price paid for a foal in a sale which included offspring of former Newmarket Handicap winner Exceed And Excel and Choisir’s sire Danehill Dancer. The filly was the fifth foal for Nirvana, a winner in juvenile company in Germany, and she has been mated with Pure Theatre (Nureyev USA-A Goodlookin’ Broad USA-Broad Brush USA). Well-known Emerald Thoroughbreds breeder Bill Benson, who bought Nirvana in foal to Bertolini at the Tattersalls July sales for 9600 Euros (about $15,365), has a real liking of Caulfield Guineas (G1) placegetter Pure Theatre. Benson’s plan to breed to Pure Theatre will produce a blood relative to his Goffs sales topper because Pure Theatre traces to Aromanite, a half-sister to Pas De Nom, dam of Danzig.

CHAMPION juvenile sire Iglesia (Last Tycoon-Yodells-Our Marscay) has broken a hind leg and been withdrawn from service for the rest of this season. Iglesia was found lame on November 2 and X-rays later revealed a vertical fracture of the off hind leg. There is a thought Iglesia injured himself when getting to his feet in his stable during the night. Iglesia underwent surgery at Oakey veterinary hospital and by November 7 was said to be putting weight on the leg and eating well. Iglesia had served more than 130 mares of an expected book of 180 of the season and the overflow were re-allocated to companion sires at Oaklands – fi rst-season stallions Ferocity (Lion Hunter-Chiara-Last Tycoon) and Break The Vault (Redoute’s Choice-Lady Giselle-Nureyev), Pure Theatre (Nureyev-A Goodlookin Broad) and Tsuimai (Thunder Gulch-Triscay-Marscay).

FEROCITY’s sire line roared into the headlines during the recent Melbourne Cup carnival thanks largely to the efforts of Gold Edition and Street Smart. Both Gold Edition (ex Glimmers-Success Express USA) and Street Smart (ex Impediment-Canny Lad) are daughters of Lion Hunter (Danehill USAPure Of Heart-Godswalk USA), the former Oaklands Stud stallion which also sired the Ascot Vale Stakes winner Ferocity (ex Chiara- Last Tycoon Ire). Gold Edition was unbeaten in two Cup carnival runs – a brilliant four lengths victory in the G1 Ascot Vale Stakes (1200m) and an even more dominant win in the Listed Schweppervescence (1200m) when she scored by seven lengths. Street Smart also won the Crown Trophy (1100m) at the Flemington carnival. Interestingly the win by Gold Edition in the $500,000 Ascot Vale completed backto- back victories in the race for Lion Hunter’s family after the 2005 effort by Ferocity, which is in his fi rst season at stud at Oaklands at a fee of $11,000 including GST.
