VERSATILITY, fleetness and stamina typify Wicked Style, the newest stallion acquisition for Oaklands Stud. Bought at the conclusion of a glittering racing career, Wicked Style joins, Ferocity, All Bar One, Chateau Istana and Break The Vault at Oaklands Stud, once the home of proven sires Lion Hunter, Iglesia and Tsiumai. Oaklands Stud principal Neville Stewart admits the tenacity displayed by Wicked Style, especially in his wire-to-wire victory in the Group 1 Lanes End Breeders Futurity (1700m) at Keeneland was impossible to ignore. ``It was reported that Wicked Style had heart and I wanted a horse that did not lack courage,” Stewart said. “His fleet-footedness as a 2YO at Group 1 level is the hallmark of a star and together with his pedigree made him irresistible.” Wicked Style possesses an imposing race record with five wins and another four minor placings from 17 racing appointments on turf and synthetic surfaces. He also presents opportunities to access some of the most valuable and successful bloodlines as a son of the accomplished Macho Uno, a grey of 1998 sired by Holy Bull from Primal Force by Lets Elope’s grand sire Blushing Groom from the Mr Prospector mare Prime Prospect. Macho Uno was crowned champion US two-year-old of his generation with the Group 1 Breeders Cup Juvenile and Grey Stakes among wins on his form sheet. Besides Wicked Style, which captured the Keeneland Futurity and Arlington Futurity, Macho Uno has also been represented by stakes winners Kays and Jays (Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3), Harlem Rocker (Withers Stakes G3), Karama (Prairie Meadows Derby Listed) and Swift Victress (John Franks Memorial Stakes Listed). Wicked Style was foaled in 2005 by Develitta, a Trempolino mare which won twice and was black-type placed in the Hollywood Park Convenience Stakes. Develitta has left other winners Deviloforush and Wicked Uno and is from the family of the celebrated US producer Delta, whose descendants include Zabeel’s highly successful son St Reims. Wicked Style has an intriguing blend of Nasrullah and Raise A Native blood on his paternal side through such stallions Red God, Blushing Groom and Mr Prospector. He also has Native Dancer, Northern Dancer, Hail To Reason and Round Table on his dam’s side through the likes of Sharpen Up, Vice Regal, Halo and Danzig. During his race career Wicked Style won high praise from jockey Robbie Albarado, who rated him among the best of his age group and trainer George Arnold said his record would have been more lustrous had he not been shin sore in the Breeders Cup Juvenile and injured as a three-year-old. “He came out of the juvenile with a hairline fracture, and when we brought him back at three, he looked good and everything but just didn’t run well.” Arnold said. “Turns out he had a stress fracture in another leg.” As a four-year-old, Wicked Style won twice and finished third in the Group 2 Fayette Stakes at Keeneland and the Group 3 Wellington Park Handicap at Arlington.
