SIXTY-FIVE yearlings being readied for sale at the Magic Millions (MM) at the Gold Coast in March will carry the bloodlines of four stallions with links to Oaklands Stud.
Oaklands’ resident sires Ferocity (Lion Hunter-Chiara-Last Tycoon Ire), Break The Vault (Redoute’s Choice-Lady Giselle USA-Nureyev USA) and Pure Theatre (Nueyer USA-A Goodlookin’ Broad USA-Broad Brush USA) have progeny up for sale. As well its former sire Iglesia (Last Tycoon Ire-Yodells-Marscay) is represented in the sales catalogue.
Ferocity, the best son of former champion stallion Lion Hunter (Danehill USA-Pure Of Heart-Godswalk USA) at stud, has 20 offspring in the MM catalogue.
A winner of the Ascot Vale Stakes as a three-year-old and the Adelaide Magic Millions in his first year at the track, Ferocity’s batch will be headed by his daughter from the highly talented Bold Promise.
Listed as Lot 237, the filly is a chestnut like her mum, whose race day credentials are almost as good as her breeding record.
In a sterling career for trainer Sterling Smith, Bold Promise captured eight victories including two versions of the Magic Millions and the Group 2 Reisling Slipper Trial and was second in the Group 1 Flight Stakes at Randwick. At stud she has produced six winners, led by the outstanding Merlene, brilliant winner of the Golden Slipper Stakes (G1) and Miss Pennymoney, twice successful at G1 level in the VRC Newmarket Handicap and Australia Stakes.
Connections were confidently predicting big things from Break The Vault, unbeaten in his first four starts. But injury prevented him rising to the top and matching the tracing deeds of his famed half-brother Zabeel.
But he has 15 lots for sale, including the bay colt from Elsie (Lot 308) whose family is liberally sprinkled with big time performers such as the derby winners Blevic and Universal Prince and the more than handy Universal Queen (Robert Sangster Stakes G1).
Record breaker Iglesia, the sire of Group 1 winner Nova Star, has 23 youngsters in the sale. The half-brother to multiple winner Strawberry Malt (ex Royal Malt-Black Zephyr NZ) should be popular with buyers.
Pure Theatre, best known on the track for his solid third in the breed shaping Caulfield Guineas, has seven offspring on offer. The colt from Mooralana (Lot 452) has a solid pedigree with relatives including Port Adelaide Guineas winner Legend Bearer and Grey Fille, winner of the Bloodhorse Breeders Plate at Flemington.
